Sharing of experiences from one week long One Health Zoonotic Disease Module 30th Oct to 2nd Nov, 2018
Conservation & Ecosystem Health Alliance (CEHA) a non-governmental organisation implementing one health research and capacity building linking universities to communities hosts annual one week long One Health Zoonotic Diseases Module in partnership with London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. The course is conducted from Hoima District, Uganda that lies within the Albertine Ecosystem. Participants are medical doctors drawn from different parts of the world that enroll for the Diploma in East Africa Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (EA-DTM&H). This module is delivered by Veterinarians working together with other professionals coordinated by CEHA. At the end of the cost, we organise an evening pre-event for the One Health Day on the 2nd November, 2018. We held the same event last year on 2nd Nov, 2017. During this event, we bring together participants of the module, facilitators/tutors (local and international), representatives from hospitals and health centers, public health officers, environmentalists, social scientists, technologists, policy makers and community representatives to commemorate the One Health Day. This social evening event lasts for about three (3hours) where all participants openly share thier experiences in one health and recognise the roles of different players in this field. From last year experience, the event is very impactful and i continue to get feedback from participants. We are already mobilising for this year event as we run the module. The module is based on experiential learning and participants are exposed to different environments and facilities and participate in actual delivery of health services at human, animal and environmental interface.
