RUSVM One Health Week and International One Health Day Community Fair
International One Health Day Community Fair will take place in the middle of bustling Basseterre, the capital of our tropical island, Saint Kitts, on Saturday 3rd November, 10am - 4pm. This fun and informative day has been organized by the students from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine forming an alliance with our sister medical schools and governmental and charitable organizations.
The One Health concept recognizes that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment. A One Health approach realizes that we need to work with physicians, veterinarians, ecologists, and many others to monitor and control public health threats and to learn about how diseases spread among people, animals, and the environment. A number of 'One Health' themed activities are planned including; man and dog wellness checks, blood sugar and blood pressure screening, demonstrations of first aid including CPR, other health promotion, disease prevention, environmental awareness, recycling initiatives.
International One Health Day takes place on November 3rd and is recognized by the One Health Commission, CDC and CARPHA as a day to highlight and engage the multidisciplinary approach that is needed to address today’s human, environmental and animal health. The Community Fair on Saturday marks the culmination of a week-long One Health Week held at RUSVM. We look forward to a fun and engaging day of events to celebrate this movement and raise awareness within our Community!
