Sharing an Animal Memory

Tuesday 06 November 2018

Sharing an Animal Memory is a One Health event taking place at the Regional Psychiatric Centre (RPC) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on November 6, 2018 to recognize One Health Day. Similar events will take place at 4 other prisons across Canada before the end of the year. The events highlight the novel One Health concept of zooeyia, the inverse of zoonosis; the positive benefit of animals to human health. The RPC event will be an opportunity to bring animals into a carceral environment, both through inmates’ shared memories (e.g., stories, artwork, poetry) and with visiting therapy dogs. The event will also profile research findings and animal assisted interventions in Correctional Service Canada (CSC) prisons. This event is supported by provincial Citizen Advisory Committees (CAC), and funded by CSC’s Citizen Engagement’s CAC Kickstarter Initiative. The event will be captured in an on-line magazine.
