North Queensland Tropical Zoonoses Interest Group
The North Queensland Tropical Zoonoses Interest Group was founded on the 3 October at its inaugural meeting comprising medical doctors, veterinarians and related health professionals.
It will launch its Facebook Group page on 3 November at the NQ Emergency Animal Disease Refresher Training Workshop Townsville, 3 & 4 November 2018, hosted by Biosecurity Queensland in partnership with Animal Health Australia under the Northern Australia Biosecurity Surveillance (NABS) Program.
The primary Objectives of the Group are:
1. To break down the silos between medical and veterinary professionals within the Townsville Burdekin region in order to improve health delivery
2. To improve communication between veterinary, medical and related professions in the Townsville area to provide a more holistic approach to common disease problems
3. To provide continuing education in the areas of relevant zoonotic diseases and one health
This group provides opportunities to network with doctors, medical professionals and veterinarians in the Townsville area and share information on zoonotic and other diseases of interest to the community. it also provides seminars and activities to improve your knowledge of zoonotic diseases relevant to our region and communities with the aim of finding one health solutions to these diseases.
The Group has the support of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine, James Cook University and Farmsafe Australia and is currently chaired by Professor Bruce Gummow.
