One Health warriors at it again in 2019 raising awareness about zoonotic diseases
In 2019 the One Health Warriors from the University of the Free State are spreading the message about One Health in Kroonstad, a town in the central plateau region of the country. This year we aim to raise awareness of two common zoonotic diseases, rabies and brucellosis. Farm workers are at risk of contracting brucellosis due to their occupation. Rabies is transmitted from infected animals such as dogs and mongoose. Hence anyone who comes into contact with infected animals is at risk. To raise awareness of these diseases we will be attending a community day event organised by the Kroonstad State Veterinary department and using this opportunity to distribute water bottles on which there will be useful information printed about these diseases. In addition, we will distribute wrist bands with information on how to take care of their dogs to prevent rabies. In addition information regarding zoonotic diseases and/or current outbreaks will be updated on our social media platforms.
