ONE HEALTH: BACTERIAL ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE AND RATIONAL USE IN VETERINARY MEDICINE

Thursday 14 November 2019 - Sunday 17 November 2019

The International Symposium on Veterinary Medicine (SIMVET) is a biennial professional-scientific even occurring since 2006. The main focus of the 2019 meeting is the study and debate of the role of One Health on the theme of bacterial resistance to antimicrobials and rational use in Veterinary Medicine. The organizing committee believes that global researchers have questioned the overuse of antimicrobials in veterinary medicine, especially in animal production. There are hypotheses that microorganisms of veterinary importance have genetically evolved and became resistant to current antimicrobials. Microorganisms that infect animals would be transferring resistance genes to microorganisms that infect humans, including zoonotic microorganisms. Therefore, in this meeting, we will discuss the following topics:

a) What is the true relationship between antimicrobial use in animal production and human health? Are there alternatives?

b) Rational use of antimicrobials in animal husbandry.

c) Are vaccines alternatives to antimicrobials?

d) What is the role of One Health in integrating Veterinary Medicine and Human Medicine in order to contribute to possible solutions?

Objectives

To present and discuss on studies that address the current and innovative topic that is being discussed in different research centers around the world by renowned professionals from several areas that integrate One Health, bacterial resistance and Brazilian laws.
To stimulate the interaction among researchers, veterinarians, physicians, biologists, producers, postgraduate and undergraduate students and other participants.
