Penn Vet’s One Health Club works in collaboration with the Delaware Humane Association (DHA), University of Delaware, and Wilmington University to run DHA’s One Health Delaware clinic. At the clinic, underrepresented families have the opportunity to receive free veterinary care and human health services all under one roof. Services include yearly wellness exams and flea and tick prevention for pets, as well as blood pressure screenings, and flu vaccines for families. Penn Vet students not only have the opportunity to develop their clinical skills but also discover the connections between veterinary and human medicine. Time is devoted at the beginning of the clinic to hold discussions about relevant topics in both professions, such as the effect of smoking on human and animal health. This creates a dialogue between both professions, allowing us to collaborate on solutions that will benefit community health.
