Ruminantia Action Project (RAP) 2019

Sunday 13 October 2019

Food Borne disease is one of the most common Indonesian public health problems. This disease arises due to contamination from pathogenic microbes in food. Foodborne disease is closely related to the level of food safety of an area that is affected by personal hygiene and sanitation during food processing (from farm to the table). The awareness of the people of Indonesia is still relatively low in addressing this problem. The simplest example is not washing hands before handling food preparations. Fulfilling that basis, I and my team as veterinary students take on the role of solving the problem of foodborne disease in Indonesia.

We understood that the complexity of foodborne disease cannot be handled by just one veterinary profession but requires interdisciplinary collaboration and communication in various aspects which are summarized in the concept of one health. Therefore, I and my fellow friends from IPB Ruminantia professional association facilitate an activity called the Ruminant Action Project (RAP) to educate the general public about preventing foodborne disease. By upholding the concept of one health, this activity collaborates with interdisciplinary such as a reviewer from the directorate general of higher education, the head of the Indonesian Veterinary Society Association, a lecturer, and a chef to jointly prevent foodborne diseases.

Ruminant Action Project (RAP) activities are carried out routinely every year. The RAP activity in 2019 raised the theme of "Optimizing the One Health Concept in the Prevention of Foodborne Disease". The purpose of this activity is to introduce the concept of One Health in Indonesia, improve the knowledge of participants in understanding Food Borne Disease and invite participants to take an active role in preventing Food Borne Disease. As for the benefits of this Ruminant Action Project activity, the Ruminant Action Project (RAP) activity as a learning medium about the concept of One Health in Indonesia, helps in adding insight into preventing food Borne disease in Indonesia, increasing participant awareness about the importance of the One Health concept in food prevention Borne disease, serving and expanding veterinary public health counseling.

The RAP activity is held on Sunday, October 13, 2019. This activity consists of two sessions. The first session was a national seminar moderated by young entrepreneurs in the field of sheep and goat farming. The seminar itself was in the form of delivery of material by several competent speakers in their fields such as reviewers of the directorate general of higher education, chair of the Indonesian veterinary community association, veterinary public health lecturer. Then proceed with the discussion between the resource person and the activity participants. While session 2 was a food processing competition where the judges was a professional chef.
