The One Health and Importance of Veterinary Medicine in the Age of Zoonotic Pandemics
Pathogenic microorganisms have been more harmful in human history than wars. This threatening process has peaked with COVID-19, but it won’t be the end. Why? In the twenty-first century, in the process starting with SARS and continuing with COVID-19 in 2020, five Zoonotic Pandemic Outbreaks have occurred. The death of more than 1,300,576 people in 11 months is sad and thought-provoking. Humanity could not stop the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was born from the synergy of ecological and anthropogenic factors. Why?
For the fourth time, I am participating in the "One Health Day" events overshadowed by COVID-19. The conference will be hosted by the Chamber of Veterinary Medicine, Kocaeli. Our aim is to emphasize the importance of Veterinary Medicine against "Pandemic Epidemics" and to spread the awareness of "One Health." We believe that "Complex Health Problems" will be solved by institutionalizing the "One Health Idea" based on interdisciplinary cooperation.
