One Health Collaborative Outreach

Sunday 24 October 2021

One Health is the concept of integrating health and wellness for humans, animal and the environment alike.

The One Health Collaborative Outreach is an attempt to combine Veterinary students, medical students and dieticians to combine their resources and aid a community. We strive to do this by combining what we having and focusing on different aspects of One Health. We have partnered with many societies within the University of Pretoria. These societies have been hand-picked got their qualities and morals that they believe in that contribute to the overall, One Health, image.

We have identified a community in Pretoria West that would benefit from the engagement of the students. The veterinary students, along with the societies at Onderstepoort Faculty of Veterinary Science, will engage with Primary Animal Health Care, Vaccinations agaisnt deadly diseases in animals and how to properly conserve the environment. The medical students at the Prinshof Faculty of Medicine will engage the community with Primary Healthcare and a basic clinical examination. The Dieticians will engage with the community on how to watch their nutrition and the basics of good health. We also have our Wildlife Committee teaching the children about our special, Big 5.

Together we hope to show the community the values of One Health and how important it is to consider each aspect of One Health as they all contribute to the holistically to bettering the community and, concurrently, creating a more sustainable future for all
