One Health Economics Mini-Congress
By increasing awareness of trade-offs and co-benefits, One Health economics can help to improve efficiency and effectiveness of resource allocation, including for disease prevention and control. This inaugural One Health Economics “Mini-Congress” will shine a light on state of knowledge, promising methods, and findings from analytical work to promote a broader understanding and assist in the operationalizing of One Health in South Africa, the region, and globally. This proposed event aligns with the One Health Joint Plan of Action (OH JPA) launched by the Quadripartite, which has six action tracks that can all potentially benefit from One Health economics in its implementation and prioritization. It aims to reinforce the efforts of the National One Health Forum, South Africa’s multi-sectoral coordination mechanism, building on a national cost-benefit analysis developed under the DTRA-supported “Reducing the Threat of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) through Ecology, Epidemiology and Socio-Economics” project.
