Joint Global One Health and World Rabies Day Commemoration in Ethiopia
On November 8, 2024, a significant event took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, celebrating the joint observance of Global One Health Day and World Rabies Day. The event emphasized the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, highlighting the One Health approach as essential for addressing contemporary health challenges.
The workshop featured a keynote address and welcoming remarks from high-ranking officials, followed by presentations on One Health strategies and rabies prevention. A panel discussion provided insights into these topics, inciting an engaging dialogue among participants.
In addition to the indoor activities, an outdoor campaign engaged the local community in Addis Ababa through dog vaccination campaigns and awareness initiatives, showcasing practical rabies control efforts.
Key objectives included raising awareness about One Health, updating decision-makers on rabies management in Ethiopia, enhancing multi-sectoral collaboration, and reinforcing commitments to the global goal of eliminating rabies by 2030.
Participants included ministers, regional officials, representatives from health and agricultural institutions, universities, media, and various One Health partners, all united in their commitment to improving health outcomes across sectors.
