International Society for Anthrozoology (ISAZ) Conference 2025 Website Launch

Sunday 03 November 2024

Join ISAZ (the International Society for Anthrozoology) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2025! Interconnected Worlds: Advancing Understanding in Human-Animal Relationships.

The International Society for Anthrozoology (ISAZ) would like to invite you to the 2025 conference framed in One Health and hosted by the PAWSitive Connections Lab based at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada on June 19 - 22, 2025.

To represent the diversity and wide applicability of anthrozoology studies – whether in theory or in applied practice – the conference theme will draw inspiration from the interconnectedness of the natural world in promoting wellness for all living beings, inclusive of considerations to broader ecosystems and intergenerational knowledge as they may impact human-animal interactions. Collaboration will be a cornerstone of the conference and its associated events, where attendees will gain exposure to Indigenous cultural practices and worldviews.

The vision of the conference will be to foster a deeper understanding of the intricate connections between humans, animals, and the natural world, aiming to promote harmony, understanding, respect, and mutually beneficial interactions. Our focus will be on the following:
~Innovations in conceptualizing, approaches to, and collaborative research in human-animal interactions and the human-animal bond;
~"One Health” and related frameworks with a focus on recognizing, or integrating, broader ecological systems of the natural world as they relate to human-animal relationships;
~Multiple ways of knowing and seeing when approaching anthrozoology – including Indigenous research methodological approaches and innovative data dissemination;
~Considering “interconnection” in human-animal interaction research, especially as it relates to wellness promotion for humans, animals, and the environment;
~Cultivating animal welfare, including respect for the inherent value and rights of animals, acknowledging their sentience, and their right to live in a world free from harm and exploitation.
